Spirit Animals

April 2024

by Walter Salas-Humara

14BC Gallery is proud to present SPIRIT ANIMALS, a live studio experience and paintings by New York City based artist Walter Salas-Humara.

Bringing the artist's private experience into the public, Walter Salas- Humara will be transforming the gallery into his own personal artist studio to produce a large 7 foot x 10 foot painting on site.  As Salas- Humara transforms the gallery into an open studio, the public is invited to observe and comment on the painting as it takes shape while he discusses his process.  Along with the work in progress, there will be finished paintings from his series SPIRIT ANIMALS on display.

SPIRIT ANIMALS explores the totemic connection humans have had to animal imagery from the very moment we used art as a form of communication. The works embrace the ancient shamanic practice of seeking an animal guide, with the artist peering through the proverbial looking glass and riding the centuries. The works are at once ancient and modern, and relevant today in their eternal story about man's connection to both nature and himself.
