Everything That Will Never Happen

July 2024

By Isa Goico

EVERYTHING THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN is a chorus of unfulfilled expectations. If you were born to become a mother, what happens when you choose infertility? Goico’s ``failures” in womanhood reinforce trans identity as counter cultural narrative. Goico explores ideas of dyke gender expression, hetero-essentialism, and identity dispossession. The artist aims to redefine their role in a world in which they were never accounted for. Goico’s painting and performance grapple with who they are in relation to who they were supposed to become.

Isa Goico (they/elle) is a Dominican-American performance artist and painter from Atlanta, Georgia. Their practice focuses on the intersection of self-mythology and liberation. As a trans-dyke, they are particularly interested in topics of gender revolution. In their free time, Isa sings in a folk punk band. They have graduated from Cornell University with minors in Spanish and Education.
